Additional Facilities

2.1 The Library
The reference library with an exhaustive collection of books and periodicals on performing arts and related subjects including a photo archive.


2.2 Conference Rooms

• The objective is the regular Rental income and to generate awareness about the center and its activities.

2.3 Rooms and Dormitories
• Four rooms for visiting artists and two dormitories for the troupe members.

2.4 The Cafeteria

• To be run by the Indian Coffee House workers Society on the south part of the complex near the Zoo wall.

2.5 One Good Quality Restaurant
• At the same location but separated from the coffee house area.

2.6 Subway to the proposed underground parking facility.
Request may be sent to JDA to include a subway from the proposed underground parking facility at Ram Nivas Garden to Ravindra Manch.

Sources of Funding:


1. Grant from State Government.
2. HRD grants for regular performances can be availed of along with matching grants from State Government.

3.2 Rent from facilities hiring for trade shows, craft bazaar, food court, coffee house, and up market restaurant on roof top.
3.3 Ticket sale through strategic alliance with RTDC/Palace on Wheels and related agencies.

Present Facilities with suitable up gradation

1. The façade and color scheme of the Building
• Needs an immediate and drastic change to truly a represent a cultural complex of a historic city.
• Presently it lacks artistic character and looks like an old cinema hall.
• The color scheme is dull, gloomy and uninviting to the visitors.
• An imminent architect must be consulted to suggest suitable changes in the façade and color scheme.
2. Main Theatre
• Capacity is 700 plus
• Needs air conditioning along with lighting & stage up graded.

3. Open Air Theatre
Capacity is about 3500
• Up gradation of various facilities, light set up/ makeup rooms/bathrooms is needed immediately.
• Possibility to turn the open air theatre in to an indoor auditorium of international standards to up grade the cultural/conference infrastructure in the city hosting international/national/regional seminars may be assessed.
• The sitting capacity of such auditorium will be around 2200 Seats
• The funding from central government can be availed for the project.



3. Mini Theatre
• The acoustic up gradation is needed. The honorable chief minister during her visit to the mini theatre has noticed the acoustic deficiency and desired for improvements.

o The 120 seat Experimental Mini Theatre is an innovative space that enables full flexibility for production design and presentation. It has been designed to give full scope for experimentation in the arts.

The flexible seating and stage units make it ideal both for traditional folk, performance-type presentations as well as avant garde presentations that require complex, asymmetrical and off-beat arena settings.

The Mini theatre can be utilized for workshops, readings, lecture-demonstrations and performances where practitioners can co-operate with musicians, dancers, film directors, photographers, painters and sculptors to explore new concepts, meet fresh challenges.

Certain kinds of music and dance recitals and folk presentations, more suited to an intimate atmosphere of appreciation, can also be scheduled in this theatre.

4. Rehearsal Rooms

• Needs up gradation with furniture and others


5. Shops at the back of the Open Air Theatre

A craft bazaar can be set up in the shops along with book shops.

6. Open spaces
Plans to utilize to hold handy craft shows, sales and others events to get rental income and expose the cultural complex to the general public and the tourists.

Human Resource Development and Avenues of Employment

1. The proposed center for performing arts will not only cater to local population, visitors and tourists but also make human resource available for various media.
2. An enormous amount of budding talent has no avenues of information, training and interaction with accomplished performers and the audiences.
3. There are now increasing avenues of employment and entrepreneurship available in films, television, radio, event management, public relations and stage shows for new generation of performers.
4. The employment and entrepreneurial opportunities will also grow in tandem with the progress of the proposed Film City project in Jaipur.
Important Points
• Only an improved building and other physical infrastructure will not solve the long standing problems of the audience looking for quality theatrical/dance/music performances and new and experienced practitioners whose creative out put is hampered due to lack of supporting facilities and skills.
• Jawahar Kala Kendra has not been designed as a performance oriented arts complex and it has no large capacity auditoriums to service larger audience. It is also away from the areas frequented by the tourist.

• Visitors to the Pink City are exposed to our rich heritage by visiting various famous monuments.
• Jaipur has a long and rich history of performing arts in field of Drama, Music & Dance.
• Rajasthan and Jaipur in particular have an increasing number of tourists both local and foreigners.
• They look for and are curious about our traditional/contemporary/experimental work in the field of performing arts.
• Jaipur city is developing fast with improved infrastructure and more people are now residing in the city than before along with increasing Indian and foreign tourists.
• At present there is no professional, institutionalized system for organizing quality performances to show case the cultural heritage and talent on a regular basis.
• The city now needs not just an auditorium complex for hiring but a vibrant center of performing arts to cater to the needs of the local audience, visitors, tourists, students of arts and performing artists.
• It is with this concern that we would like to draw your kind attention for the need of establishing a Center of Performing Arts at Ravindra Manch, Jaipur.
• Ravindra Manch is the only ideally/centrally located complex close to walled city and can easily be approached from all corners of the city.
